This is a buckle from a piece of military dress horse tack that would have been placed directly on the center of the horse's chest connecting part of the saddle upper and lower. Depictions of this type of buckle or seen in Roman military horse dressings from the second century BCE and change slightly during the Byzantine era. I have added a decorative Rosette\ medallion to cover what would have been two slots that accepted a piece of leather. I've mounted it on a frame of antique heart pine from a salvaged Barn that was being torn down 50 mi away from my home. The farm has been around for over 300 years and a new home and Barnes sit on the same property to this very day. The medallion can be removed as well as the centerpiece without harm to the patina. It's a beautiful piece for somebody who has everything or somebody who thinks they have everything and appreciates horses or just appreciates ramen militaria. Please feel free to make an offer because no offer is turned away.
