Kamehameha Garment Co. started in 1936 with Herb Brierner and 15 employees. By 1945, they had a large factory in Hilo, Hawaii, with 200 employees, becoming a top Aloha shirt maker in name and reality. The company released many beautiful and high-quality original patterns and is known for producing many works by John Meigs, including Gauguin woodcuts.
This "Oriental Under Sea" was previously revived under the "KEONI OF HAWAII" brand, but it remains a popular design with many requests for re-releases. It fantastically depicts goldfish, freshwater fish, swimming in a sea-like background with a unique touch, a masterpiece that made Meigs famous worldwide.
