This is a night oil lamp filler, or oil can, made by Manning Bowman & Co. (1849-1945). It's nickel plated with a fancy, raised grape vine around the waist. Night oil lamps were small and needed a small oil filler to keep them lit. This one dates from about 1880. On the base is the mark, "Manning Bowman & Co./ Meriden, Conn." Length: 8¼ in.; width: 4¼ in.; height: 4¼ in. In good condition with no dents or wear-through; the chain and spout cap are missing. This condition is reflected in the price.
